Frequently Asked Questions
I don't have a red dot sight yet, but I would like to buy one before class, do you have any recommendations?
There are many options out there and it largely depends on your budget. Converting your handgun over from traditional iron sights to an ideal RDS setup can be an investment. You’ll need to either get your slide milled for an RDS or purchase an aftermarket slide. You will need to purchase an RDS and you will also want to get suppressor height iron sights installed so you can use them as a backup if your RDS ever fails.
In terms of specific red dot sights we recommend, take a look at offerings by Trijicon, Aimpoint, Leupold or Holoson. There are plenty of other options at cheaper price points, but you get what you pay for. If you’re going to bet your life on a handgun with an RDS you want one you can really rely on. Please make sure to do plenty of research and contact us if you need any further guidance.
What do I need to do to prepare for this class?
- Make sure you have your red dot sight professionally installed or if you do it yourself make sure to use loctite and a torque wrench (check the manufacturers recommended torque specs).
- Bring any manuals and tools that came with your RDS.
- If you know how to zero your RDS then it’s a good idea to do it before class, that will save you time. However, we will cover zeroing in class and give everyone an opportunity to zero their RDS. We recommend a 25 yard zero and we will show you ways to make that process easier.
- Make sure to get a holster that works with an RDS mounted on your handgun.
Can I rent a handgun with a red dot sight for this class?
We have a limited number of RDS handguns available for rent. If you will need to rent in order to attend this class, make sure to contact us before booking your class to verify we have a rental still available for you.
Can I buy ammunition from you for training?
We don’t sell ammunition to those who are bringing their own firearm to class, they will need to supply their own. If you need help figuring out where to purchase ammunition, check out our Industry Partners!
We only provide ammunition to students who are renting firearms from us for the sole purpose of training.
