Absolutely! We do have a few classes that are restricted to law enforcement and military personal only, but most of our schedule is open to civilians. Our students are just like you in their everyday lives… doctors, lawyers, directors, teachers, stay at home moms, engineers etc. who want to come out and train just for fun or because they have or are thinking of buying a firearm for home defense. Many of our students become good friends, network with each other and ending up taking many classes together.
If the class is restricted for any reason it will be clearly indicated on the individual course page.
For most of our new students Defensive Handgun I is really where it all starts. It is the pre-requisite not only for Defensive Handgun II, but also for the rest of our Level 1 courses… Carbine I,Shotgun I, Sniper I and some of our "Specialty Courses.
The reason for this is that Defensive Handgun I will cover not only the proper use and mechanics of the pistol, but on day 1 we lecture extensively on the “use of force” (when you can and can’t shoot within the confines of the law), situational awareness, proper mindset, safe firearms handling, storage and transportation, how to address firearms with children, setting up a safe-room and much more. We insist that our students develop the proper respect and responsibility for owning or even handling firearms before they can advance to higher levels of training.
Believe us, you will appreciate that every student in every class is up to the proper standard of training and safety at all times on our range.
Defensive Handgun I is even for students who have been shooting for much of their lives but may have never trained from a holster or taken a formal class, or those who have taken a single class but it has been years since they’ve shot.
For those with some prior experience that we can verify, we may be able to start you in Defensive Handgun II or Shotgun, Carbine and Sniper level 1 or 2 classes.
Current and former Law Enforcement and Military most often start in Defensive Handgun II unless you’ve had additional training outside of your department or unit in which case we may be able to start you in Defensive Handgun III.
We do not ever put a student who is new to our school directly into Advanced Handgun.
The pre-requisites for carbine, shotgun and sniper training are treated the same way.
If you have any uncertainty about pre-requisites, call us at 310-446-1390 and we will be able to quickly make that determination. You may also get a head start on the process by downloading our new student application and faxing it to 310-446-1393 or you can email it to email@example.com
Simply sign up online by visiting any individual course page or call us at 310-446-1390 and we will get you squared away over the phone.
Our corporate office is in West Los Angeles and our range is about 30 minutes from LAX or 10 minutes from the Burbank Airport. Please visit our Location page for our address and detailed directions to our range.
Yes we do! If you can’t make one of our regularly schedule weekend classes, if you want one-on-one instruction or if you want to come out with a small group of friends please take a look at our Private Training page and then call us at 310-446-1390 for more details on pricing and what a private lesson entails. We have both weekday and weekend options and our private lessons range from 3 to 5 hours dependent on which instructor you work with and what weapons will be used.
We have numerous high-end firearms for rent. From all pistol calibers to custom built rifles and shotguns with only the highest quality optics. All of our rentals are optimally set up and ready to go.
If you wish to train on weekdays then we will be happy to arrange Private Training at a time convenient for you. Go to our Private Training page for available dates.
We would love to have you come train with us but all of our training is on a scheduled basis. We are not a public range that allows students to casually drop in and shoot. If you are looking for a public range you can call Angeles Shooting Range (http://www.angelesranges.com) at (818) 899-2255 which is located on the same property as our school’s private range. Please note that they do not rent firearms.
Please see our Policies page page for details.
Our class sizes usually range from 10 – 20 students. For larger classes we have additional instructors to keep an effective student to instructor ratio.
We don’t offer discounts specifically for LEO/MIL, but we do offer discounts on classes from time to time so please make sure to follow us on social media and sign up for our newsletter to stay informed.
Any time 3 or more friends or family sign up and pay together we can offer a discount. We also offer a variety of Training Packages that allow you to take a series of 3 or more classes and will save you hundreds of dollars! If you don’t see a training package that meets your interests just call us at 310-446-1390 and we can design a custom package that suits your needs.
We don’t make travel arrangements on behalf of students but we do know the area well and we would be glad to help point you in the right direction. To get you started, most students stay in a town called Burbank, CA, which is about 10-15 minutes from our range. There is an airport in Burbank that you can fly into which will be a little more convenient than LAX and many students choose to stay at the Courtyard Marriot located at the Burbank Airport.
For any additional assistance with accommodations please call our office at 310-446-1390.
Each year we travel offsite to numerous states and other countries to provide training worldwide. As long as there is a dedicated training facility with adequate resources and enough interest from locals we’ll come to you! Call us at 310-446-1390 to discuss further specifics.
Unfortunately we do not under any circumstances allow observers at the range during classes. Everyone must be a paid and registered student to be present during a class. If you want to gain some insight about our training please make sure to check out our Testimonials page, Facebook page and Yelp, which all include multiple class reviews from students and plenty of photos. We thank you for your understanding.
We know that identifying, locating and purchasing the right firearm can be an intimidating and daunting task, especially for beginners. Call us at 310-446-1390 and we would be glad to introduce you to local gun stores where we have great relationships with the staff who will take good care of you. We know stores all around the city, from the west side to the valley so we will help find one that is convenient for you.
Don’t buy everything you see online only to come to class and find out it’s not ideal for you. We see that all too often and we don’t want you to waste your money!
If you are just starting out, the best thing to do is to come to a basic level class and you will quickly learn from our instructors and your fellow students what works and what doesn’t. Even if it’s high quality gear, what works for one person doesn’t necessary work for another.
You get what you pay for and when it comes to firearms training you DO NOT want to cut corners. ITTS is the only tier one school in Southern California. This means that based on the quality of training that we offer students, our pricing is very reasonable. There are other ‘name’ schools that charge twice as much and offer considerably less knowledge and experience. We know because we are the school that ‘trains the trainers’! We do this full time and the experience level of our carefully selected LAPD SWAT instructors is truly second to none. The wisdom they impart to you is what they use in the streets every day. We put everything into offering you the best training available and we’re confident you will agree when you come out and experience a class for yourself.
The best thing to do regarding prerequisites is call our office at 310-446-1390 so we can discuss your prior experience and place you in the appropriate course.
We want to offer a couple of thoughts on this subject so you know where we are coming from ahead of time…
In our industry there are only select schools that have been around long enough and have developed a well-deserved reputation for quality training and high safety standards. Unfortunately there are many “instructors” who give our industry a bad name by putting students at risk and who have even falsified their resumes and their experience to unwitting students. Some instructors teach firearms on weekends and hold other jobs during the week. Teaching tactics and high-risk courses of fire should only be conducted by those qualified with real world experience. At ITTS we employ only full time operators who have had many years of experience in law enforcement, teaching firearms and tactics and do this full time!
Safety is our number one priority and unfortunately it is not enforced nearly enough in many schools. Our advice, whether you take a class with us or not, if you see safety rules being violated, leave the class immediately. Having fun is one thing, but safety should never be compromised!!
We release our annual class schedule in two increments. Our January – June schedule is generally released in October of the previous year and our July – December schedule is released in April.
We do this because we provide offsite training worldwide during the summer and fall months so we must allow for some flexibility during that time. You can always expect our second-half schedule to mirror our first-half schedule very closely, with some new courses mixed in.
Please call our office at 310-446-1390 with any questions about our schedule.
Please call our office at 310-446-1390 to check when the class you are interested in will be scheduled. We rely on feedback from students so when there is a high demand for certain classes you can expect to see them scheduled soon!
